Job Dispatch

Following last week’s article, B2B – The 4 W’s of Job Creation, I wanted to explore the different ways to dispatch or ‘hand over’ the job to the technician to perform the work. Within simPRO there are many different options for dispatching jobs out to the technicians using mobile devices or Navman Wireless but first I want to take a look at the basic method of using simple printed job cards.

There are a couple ways to print job cards and which way you go about it depends on what suits you and how you relate the job information to your technician

1) Printing from the day view schedule.

When you are in the day view, Projects > Schedule > Day View, right click on the schedule block for the job you are after and select ‘Print Job Card’. You can use this method to print job cards as you go meaning as you schedule the job you can print the job card straight away. This will print the schedule job card being that it knows who you are printing the job card for (the scheduled employee) and which time to put on the job card.

See below of an example of a default job card.

With the job card that prints from the schedule page the scheduled employee’s name prints across the top and includes their scheduled date and start time, other employees scheduled on the job and the description of work to be done. It will also print out any materials that are assigned to that job. You will also notice that under the location and client details, notes can be added to print out to save time or remind the technician about some details for the site or client. To enter or edit notes for the location, open up the client’s card and go to Location > Notes. Those notes displayed on the job card are the public notes. To input or edit the client notes, open up the client’s card and go to the profile tab, you will see a section called “Notes” there.

2) Printing from within the job

The other way to print job cards is from within the job itself from either the details tab on the overview page or from the forms menu. Printing from here will not display any scheduled times or employees names so it is handy for longer running jobs where there is likely to be multiple technicians attending and responsible for the job.

3) Bulk printing

Within simPRO there is also the option to bulk print job cards and also print a run sheet for the technician. You can find the option to print these under Projects > Schedule > Run Sheet or Job Cards. You will then get the options as displayed below

You can choose a date range, select one or multiple technicians and print all the jobs cards for them or a run sheet. A run sheet is a good way to show the technicians not only what jobs they have to do but also what order to do them in especially if you are handing them a week’s worth of job cards at once.

This article is intended to keep things simple and look at a basic method of issuing out paper based job cards to technicians. simPRO also has the functionality to dispatch jobs via SMS, e-mail and to mobile devices with our simPRO Mobile products on PDA’s, Ultra Mobiles and of course the digital pens.
