RSS Icon Hi, I just noticed your blog (again!) so this time I thought'd I'd say thanks for the awesome site! Keep it up :D

Leslie Hurry places are limited and we would love for you to come along!
simPRO is constantly evolving. Due to the growing number of companies choosing to implement simPRO to simplify their business, we are always coming across new and better ways to get the job done. Here is some of the latest developments that we have rolled out.
These development highlights include Labour Type Multiplier / Fit times, Walk Order, Project Scheduling, PDA Upgrades. (more…)
As you may know, the Apple iPad was launched today in Australia.
We knew that there was a lot of interest in using the iPad as a tool for simPRO users – both for the technicians to record job data, times, materials usage etc and for management to be able to access all their simPRO business information no matter where they are. We wrote about the iPad previously and how it would run simPRO – but many of you wanted proof.
So, we sent out our intrepid head techie, Curtis Thomson, to get one as soon as it was available and put simPRO through it’s paces.
Curtis queued for hours and endured the company of Apple Fan Boys just to be able to bring this to you, for that we salute his fortitude!
Watch the video below for the first look at simPRO running on the iPad.
The simPRO access via the iPad can be done in a number of different ways:
The great thing about the simPRO system is that it will work immediately on the inbuilt web browser on the iPad. That means you can take the iPad out of the box, turn it on, open the browser and then open simPRO.
No need to download anything
No need for apps.
Like all parts of simPRO – it just works!
Note: That wasn’t really a photo from Curtis, I just found it on this website – just for a laugh.
We are very excited today to announce the release of our full integration of the simPRO Mobile Digital Pen with the online leader in accounting systems, Xero.
Put simply this new integration from the simPRO Mobile Digital Pen (that we internally nicknamed the Xero Pen) allows field based staff to complete an invoice sheet using a pen and paper and to have that instantly and electronically able to be updated into Xero. (more…)
In the last few articles we have been looking at the various options to mobilise your field force. There are strengths for each of the options and it is important to consider what will work best for your staff within their roles.
Today we are going to bring it all together in a general overview with an emphasis on the final output.
Please refer to our earlier articles for a detailed article on each of the above options but we will have a look at the areas that really are best suited in the business.
Digital Pens
This Option, which is also detailed at www.simpromobile.com.au and has proven to be our most popular option for busy technicians in the field. The huge benefit here is the ease of use. The technician simply replaces the common pen with their simPRO Digital Pen and uses a service book that has been printed with a dot pattern but is made from normal paper. (more…)
The new Motorola MC9500-K is one of the most rugged and powerful mobile devices for the field service management industry yet.
It is a striking looking unit that is packed with features that ensures it will be a perfect tool for field service companies everywhere with ergonomically designed ruggerdised casing, multiple communications standards (GSM, HSDPA, CDMA, Wi-fi) and a bar code reader.
In terms of a fit for simPRO integration, it is a perfect unit. Running on Windows Mobile 6.1, the large 3.7″ screen, full QWERTY keyboard and blazing fast 3.5G connection means that it is fully supportive of the simPRO Mobile PDA/Smartphone application.
The combination of the PDA application & the Digital Pen solution creates the ultimate in field service systems delivering real time data to the PDA with stock control, job dispatch, purchase orders etc and combining that with reporting, client signature capture, incident reports and site diaries driven from the pen and paper. Utilising these tools together brings the field worker and the office together like never before. (more…)
One of the biggest challenges in business is gaining accurate information from field staff. The nature of their work means that there is a delay between when they gather information and when it is returned to the office for processing.
Let me give you some examples…
You have engineers working on job sites. They perform minor works and record their time and materials on job cards or time sheets that you don’t see until the end of the day or even the end of the week. The result is that materials ordering and invoicing is delayed until the information is recorded back in the office.
During our first newsletter we talked about the simPRO Mobile digital pens . Last month we looked at the PDAs and Smartphones and how you can best use growing technology such as iPhones and other handheld devices to improve your business productivity. Completing the simPRO Mobile suite of mobility solutions for field technicians is something that offers more power and a bigger screen – simPRO Ultra-Mobile.
What is an Ultra-Mobile?
An Ultra-Mobile PC, or UMPC, is another name for a Netbook or small laptop – designed to be easily carried around and particularly useful for accessing web based applications. These are commonly available at most of the major computer retailers and also online. (more…)
In order to successfully print simPRO Mobile Digital Pen forms on your local printer, you need a suitable high resolution colour printer.
Many colour laser printers are suitable for the job when printing from a PDF, but only Oki printers have been certified by Anoto to use to print the dot pattern. These Oki printers are equally at home with printing the PDF forms or printing from the Post Script (PS) files.
Any Oki printer that supports Post Script printing works fine to use if printing from PS files.
However, there are certified printers available.
Oki Printing Solutions provides Anoto Qualified Printers for following printer series:
With the constant barrage of information being handed to us about mobile technology it’s easy to get confused!
Last month we talked about simPRO Mobile – Digital Pens and how they can help your business operations and cash flow by sending job cards (and photos) to the office instantly with just a pen and mobile phone. With the huge success of the iPhone and other smart phones, getting a web browser on your phone with a fast internet connection has become common place and users are now looking for more than just email access for mobile workers.
This month we are going to briefly look at PDAs and smart phones, including both the popular iPhone and the new comer – Google Android and how they offer another method of collecting field data and updating it directly into simPRO.
Insightful post. I really appreciated reading through it.
